Ask insurance about the exact use

Whether insurance pays can depend on your diagnosis, the exact medicine and your plan’s own rules. A general question about “peptides” is too loose.

Use this call outline

  • Is this exact medicine covered for the condition on my record?
  • Does the insurance company have to agree in advance (prior approval) before it pays?
  • Which clinical notes or test results are required?
  • Must it come from a specific pharmacy?
  • What is my cost after the deductible?
  • Does my plan pay for blood tests separately, and how much of that cost is mine?

Notebook entry

Keep two prices separate

People on Medicare, Medicaid or military coverage could not use the manufacturers’ savings cards for the brand-name weight medicines Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro, as of September 2026; the makers’ own cash prices were a separate offer, so ask about them directly.

A card price, a plan price and a cash price are different answers. Write down which one the person on the phone is quoting.

Before ending the call

  • Ask for the reference number for the call.
  • Repeat the answer back in plain words.
  • Ask where the rule appears in the plan document.
  • Write the date beside every price.
